The Sandman: Episode 3 Review With Spoilers

The Sandman: Episode 3 "Dream a Little Dream of Me" Review

Warning: The article contains spoilers.

Tom Sturridge as the Sandman

Johanna and Morpheus sitting on a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g. If we were kids we would be singing this tune, because if there's one thing this episode has in plenty, then it's the sizzling chemistry between the two.

Jenna Coleman and Tom Sturridge do a great job of conveying the desire the two characters feel. Also, it makes sense that the two are attracted towards each other. After all, both of them love trench coats and believe that it's dangerous for anyone to get close to them.

In Johanna's case it is true, since we see her ex-Rachel wasting away because our Constantine accidentally left the pouch of Sand with her. Poor Rachel is pulled into a beautiful dream as she pines over Johanna without eating or drinking.

By the time our duo get to her, there's nothing they can do except ensure that she passes away painlessly in her sleep. Maybe this serves as a lesson for Morpheus as by the end of the episode he allows Matthew the Raven to stay by his side and accompany him to Hell.

Speaking of Matthew, voiced by Patton Oswalt, he injects some much needed comic relief in the show. Also he gives us more lore. Matthew says that he died in his sleep and then came back as a Raven. So if a dead human gets revived as a Raven, then did poor Jessamy die twice? That's harsh writers.

But now that Morpheus has his Sand, it's time to get his Helm back from Hell. And in this journey we expect him to meet Lucifer Morningstar. But that's for the next episode to explore. For now, need to talk more about the star of this episode- Johanna Constantine.

Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine

"Run along and fuck off back to hell," is a dialogue that I loved hearing and if any tv gods are listening then I would love to watch a spin-off series with Johanna Constantine fighting demons, delivering bangers, and being an overall fuckgirl.

What adds cherry on the top of her amazing characterization is her no-fucks-given attitude combined with street smarts that made her trick the demon into chanting the Latin incantation to send himself back to hell. Also, she has beef with the Royal family, which just makes me love her more.

Will we see her again in the show? I wish. Till now, she's the stand-out performance for me. But there's more to the episode. There's drama Ethel is going through with her son John. Ethel apologises to John and tells him the truth about his heritage.

She also begs him to give the Ruby back to her so that she can pass it along to Morpheus as he is coming for them. John refuses and says that it has been refashioned into something else.

He instead gives his mother an idea- to use the Ruby to wish Dream away from the world. While it makes one wonder if it's possible, but the answer is probably no since his talismans are a part of him.

To convince John and ensure his safety from Dream, Ethel gives him her Protection Amulet. She hopes that now he will give the Ruby back to Dream.

But this wasn't the brightest idea that poor Ethel had. Without the Amulet she's dead, and her maniac son is out of his high security prison, tearing apart security officers with it.

It's the clash we know Dream will probably win, but we are waiting for some twists and turns in the story.
