Plot

Drama company artists attempt to run away with a treasure chest but are caught and killed by the local goons. Trouble is- their truck is empty and no one else knows where the treasure is kept. Thus, everyone begins searching for it, and by sheer coincidence a corrupt police officer gets pulled in the midst of it.

Avane Sriman Narayana (Adventures of Sriman Narayana) is one of a kind movie. It's has an engaging plot. You will be swept away in the world that Sriman Narayana inhabits and be amazed at the grand treasure hunt.

However, this movie will test your patience as it takes its sweet time setting up the plot and characters. There are plenty of scenes which should have been left at the editing table. Overall, Avane Sriman Narayana would have benefitted from a tighter script and shorter running time.

In fact, instead of spending time on Sriman Narayana's bar escapades, the makers should have spent a bit more time developing the romance of Narayana and Laxmi. After all their sudden affection towards the other comes as a bit of a surprise at the end.

But it's worth it when the treasure hunt wholeheartedly begins. From solving the riddle to actually finding the treasure, you will be absorbed in the story.

Cast

Rakshit Shetty as Inspector Narayana comes across as a whimsical but smart officer who seemingly knows how to get out of every bad situation. However, he overdoes his Captain Jack Sparrow act sometimes, which makes it diffficult to take the character seriously.

Achyuth Kumar as Constable Achyuthanna is the reliable sidekick of Narayana and stays by his side even when the going gets hard.

Shanvi Srivastava plays Lakshmi, a serious reporter and member of the drama company. She doesn't have much to do in the movie except play a love interest in the second-half of the movie, but in the first-half she gets to play a foil to Narayana who isn't serious about seemingly anything at all.

Lakshmi is certainly a deviation from the other kind of female characters generally seen- for one, the movie doesn't sexualize her or degrade her intelligence.

Also, there are no item songs involving her in skimpy clothes. The makers deserve their kudos for that. And whatever little she does is certainly connected to the plot, and she has her own reasons behind her actions.

Balaji Manohar as Jayarama and Pramod Shetty as Tukaram are half-brothers who are after power and the treasure. The actors are menacing in their roles which balance out Narayana's whimsical nature and give stakes to the movie.

However, sometimes they come across as caricaturish. But that is broadly the fault of the screenplay which in an attempt to show Narayana as the titular hero who can do anything, undercuts the threats of Jayaram and Tukaram.

Visuals

Avane Sriman Narayana has washed out visuals which gives the movie its signature rustic and village vibe. The clothes are dirty and places grimy, which transports the audience to this world.

The wild west and Pirates of the Carribean inspiration clearly shines through, but the makers have cleverly integrated it with the rural landscape of the country. This gives the movie its unique setting. Also, each and every character has their own signature style which helps distinguish them.

Final Verdict

Avane Sriman Narayana is a movie that deserves a watch due to the plot, visuals, and acting of its star cast. However do note that the movie is long at almost 3 hours and some scenes stretch longer than most. So make sure you stock up on your popcorn.
